Given the volume of tasks and the magnitude of risks involved in large reductions in force (RIFs), a manual process is inadvisable. This paper illustrates how critical workforce, financial and legal tasks and decisions can be extremely difficult to properly and safely undertake with only manual, paper-based support.
It provides numerous examples, including case studies, to highlight the strength of sophisticated automated systems for managing RIFs. It also examines the decision to develop or implement a transition management system, considering the pros and cons of both approaches.
